About Bloomipedia
Bloomipedia is a small, independent guide to the official flowers of the U.S. states and the wildflowers that grow around them. We want flower facts to be easy and fun, whether you're planning a garden, out on a spring walk, or hunting for the perfect flower-themed gift.
Where our facts come from
- USDA PLANTS Database: growth habit, life cycle, native or introduced status, and the states where each plant is recorded.
- iNaturalist: research-grade community observations, which we use to pick each state's flowers, for sighting counts, and for bloom charts built from observations marked “Flowering.”
- Wikipedia: background facts, either restated in our own words or quoted with credit under CC BY-SA.
- Conservation: USFWS ECOS (federal Endangered Species Act), each state's official endangered and threatened plant list where one exists, and NatureServe ranks.
- Invasive plants: each state's official invasive or noxious plant list where one exists.
- Edibility and safety: NC State Extension's Plant Toolbox and the ASPCA's plant list. If no good source exists, we say “not well documented.”
- State law: official state flower designations, citing the statute when we can.
Each photo is licensed CC0 or CC BY and credited where it appears. Spot a mistake? We'd love to fix it.
